Invitation of Participants of the United Nations Programme of Fellowship on Disarmament
September 25, 2006
- Thirty participants of the United Nations Programme of Fellowship on Disarmament (participants such as young diplomats from such countries as Iran, India, Russia and the USA) will visit Japan from September 28 (Thu) to October 4 (Wed) at the invitation of the Government of Japan.
- During their stay in Tokyo, the fellows will receive a lecture on Japan's disarmament and non-proliferation diplomacy as well as export control, and in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, they will visit museums on Atomic Bomb and have talks with atomic bomb survivors. The fellows will also exchange views on the disarmament and non-proliferation diplomacy with relevant people of the Government of Japan, based on their experience in Japan.
- It is expected that, while the importance of the international engagement in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation is increasing, young diplomats from many countries will deepen the understanding of Japan's positive approach towards the issue. It is also expected that, through deepening the understanding of the realities of the suffering from the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the fellows' acquired knowledge and experience will be made use for the policymaking on disarmament and non-proliferation in each country after returning to their home countries.
