Mr. Nobutaka Machimura, Minister for Foreign Affairs, to Attend ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Japan-EU Troika Foreign Ministers' Meeting, ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers' Informal Meeting, The Third Meeting of the Three-Party Committee of People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (the R.O.K.) and other meetings

- On May 6 (Fri) and 7 (Sat), Mr. Nobutaka Machimura, Minister for Foreign Affairs, will host the ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kyoto. The Meeting will be attended by foreign ministers and other officials of the 38 ASEM partners and one organization: a total of 13 countries from Asia (10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, Japan, China and the R.O.K.; and 25 EU (European Union) member states and the European Commission. The participants will exchange views on dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe focusing on such topics as United Nations reform, regional issues including the Korean Peninsula and the Middle East, environmental issues, energy security and cultural diversity.
- Taking the opportunity of the ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the following meetings will also be held: Japan-EU Troika Foreign Ministers' Meeting; ASEAN+3 (Japan, China and the R.O.K.) Foreign Ministers' Informal Meeting on May 6 (Fri); and the Three-Party Committee of People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea on May 7 (Sat).
(1) The Japan-EU Troika Foreign Ministers' Meeting will exchange views on the follow-up of the Japan-EU Summit to be held on May 2 in Luxembourg, as well as on the international situation.
(2) The ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers' Informal Meeting, to be attended by foreign ministers and other officials of 10 ASEAN countries, Japan, China and the R.O.K., will exchange views to promote East Asia regional cooperation centering on the first East Asia Summit to be held in December 2005 in Malaysia.
(3) At the Third Meeting of the Three-Party Committee of People's Republic of China, Japan and the R.O.K., the foreign ministers of the three countries will exchange views on future direction of the trilateral cooperation, East Asia regional cooperation and other issues in view of the next Trilateral Summit Meeting of Japan, People's Republic of China and the R.O.K. - During his stay in Kyoto, Mr. Machimura will have bilateral talks with representatives of some ASEM partners including Mr. BAN, Ki-Moon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the R.O.K.
