  2. Approximately 70 officials and experts in the field of emergency preparedness from APEC member economies are expected to attend.

  3. The objective of the workshop is to promote Business Continuity Plan (BCP) among APEC member economies. The participants will examine case studies in the private sector, share expertise on how to develop BCPs in each economy, and discuss the role of governments in promoting BCPs in the Asia-Pacific region.

[Notes]

•  At the APEC Meeting of Ministers responsible for Trade (MRT) held in Montana, USA, in May 2011, APEC economies reconfirmed that Asia-Pacific region is particularly prone to natural disasters and its supply chains are closely connected. Against this background, the members shared a view that a single disaster could affect the economic activities of the entire region and therefore APEC needs to strengthen its agenda on disaster preparedness and recovery as well as its partnership among the members.

•  At the workshop, the participants will examine the current level of BCP installation in Asia-Pacific region based on the research conducted by the Government of Japan in advance, a) share case studies in the private sector, b) exchange information on effective training methods, and c) discuss public-private partnership and the role of governments in promoting BCP in the region.
