  1. Continuous heavy rain since before the Christmas holidays has triggered an unprecedented flood in Queensland, and as of 4th January, 10 people have drowned and more than 5,800 people have evacuated.

  2. Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiji Maehara sent a message to Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kevin Rudd, respectively, expressing their sympathy with the victims and survivors of the flood.
