Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Reappointment of Mr. José Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
September 30, 2010
Japanese
- The Council of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) convened on September 30 (local time) at the OECD headquarters, and decided the reappointment of Mr. José Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD. Japan welcomes this decision.
- Japan highly appreciates the efforts made by the OECD under Secretary-General Gurría: the OECD’s contribution to member countries including Japan, its role in international fora such as the G8 and the G20, and its strengthened ties with non-member countries. The OECD provides analyses and policy recommendations in a range of areas including the economy, development, the environment, education, employment and labor policies. Japan intends to actively take part in these activities, and utilize them for domestic policy making and other decisions. Japan expects these interactions will contribute to an even closer relationship with the OECD.
