Deposit of the Instrument of the Ratification of the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

- The Government of Japan deposited the instrument of ratification of the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on July 1in Berlin, Germany. The Statute will enter into force on July 31 for Japan.
- The Statute stipulates the establishment of an international organization to promote the sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. It was adopted at the Founding Conference of IRENA held on January 26, 2009 in Bonn, Germany. Japan signed the Statute at the second session of the Preparatory Commission held on June 29, 2009 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
- The Government of Japan intends to engage actively and effectively in IRENA’s activities in order to continue proactively contributing to international cooperation in the area of renewable energy and to further strengthen Japan’s international competitiveness in related industries.
