Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Bomb Attacks in Pakistan

  1. A suicide bomb attack occurred at a political rally in Timergarah, the Lower Dir district of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (approximately 200 kilometers from the capital city of Islamabad) on the morning of April 5 (Mon). A series of bomb attacks also took place near the United States Consulate on the afternoon of the same day in Saddar, Peshawar. The Government of Japan is deeply shocked and angered by the large number of casualties. The Government of Japan also expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of the attacks and their bereaved families and heartfelt sympathy for those injured.

  2. The Government of Japan firmly condemns the bombing as an inexcusable act, targeted at innocent people. We strongly denounce terrorism in any form or manifestation and reiterate our stance that there can be no justification whatsoever for any acts of terrorism.

  3. The Government of Japan hopes that the people of Pakistan will swiftly overcome this tragedy. We also resolve to continue our cooperation with the international community to defeat terrorism.
