Mr. Yoshihisa ENDO, a Japanese Candidate, to be Appointed as Executive Director of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre (ISC)

- Mr. Yoshihisa ENDO, a candidate backed by the Government of Japan, was unanimously appointed as the next Executive Director of the ReCAAP ISC at 4th Annual Meeting of the ReCAAP ISC Governing Council in Singapore today.
- Japan took the initiative in the establishment of the ReCAAP and dispatched Mr. Yoshiaki ITO as the first Executive Director. Due in part to Executive Director ITO’s remarkable work, the activities of the ReCAAP ISC have recently drawn international attention as a model for regional cooperation including information sharing and efforts for capacity building in maritime enforcement sector. The further development of the ReCAAP is expected under newly-appointed Executive Director ENDO’s leadership.
- The number of piracy incidents in the Strait of Malacca is on constant decrease as enforcement efforts made by littoral states, activities of the ReCAAP ISC and other measures have been making steady effects. Through the appointment of the new Executive Director, the Government of Japan is determined to continue its support including contributions of human resources to the ReCAAP ISC.
