Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Suicide Bomb Attack in Somalia

- Japan strongly condemns the suicide attack on June 18, 2009, in Beledweyne,
located in central Somalia, which wounded and killed many people including
Omar Hashi Aden, Security Minister of the Transitional Federation Government
(TFG) of Somalia. Japan expresses its deepest condolences for those who
have been killed and the families of the victims. Japan also extend its
heartfelt sympathy toward the injured.
- It is extremely regrettable that the terrorist attack would occurred
whilst peace efforts continue to make progress in Somalia, within the framework
of TFG, which is supported by international community.
- Japan will continue to offer its cooperation and provide aid in order to stabilize the situation in Somalia in collaboration with the international community.
