Exchange of Notes concerning the Entry into Force of the Japan-Brunei Darussalam Economic Partnership Agreement

- Following the cabinet decision of today, July 1 (Mon), the Exchange
of Notes concerning the Entry into Force of the Economic Partnership Agreement
(EPA) between Japan and Brunei Darussalam took place in Tokyo between H.
E. Mr. Masahiko Koumura, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H. E.
Mr. Dato Adnan, Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Japan. With this exchange
of Diplomatic Notes, the EPA will enter into force on July 31 (Thu).
- This EPA is aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries in wide-ranging areas by promoting liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment and advancing cooperation in such areas as energy resources, improvement of the business environment and human resource development. It is expected that the entry into force of this EPA will further vitalize the economies of Japan and Brunei Darussalam and tighten bilateral relations through strengthened economic partnership.
