Dispatch of Mr. Taijiro Kimura, Special Assistant for Disarmament and Non-proliferation Issues, to the UN Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific

- Following the approval from the United Nations Secretariat to appoint
Mr. Taijiro Kimura, Special Assistant for Disarmament and Non-proliferation
Issues, as the Director (P5) of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace
and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific, the Government of Japan has decided
to dispatch him to the Center. The Center’s office, which has been
in New York, moved to Kathmandu (Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal) on
August 18, 2008. Mr. Kimura will serve as the first Director at the
Kathmandu office.
- Mr. Kimura will bear important responsibilities as the Director of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific to promote dialogues concerning disarmament and security in the Asia-Pacific. Japan will continue exerting leadership for disarmament and non-proliferation in the Asia-Pacific region, in cooperation with Director Kimura and the Center.
