Signing of the Agreement between Japan and Brunei Darussalam for an Economic Partnership

- On June 15 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided at its Cabinet meeting to sign the “Agreement between Japan and Brunei Darussalam for an Economic Partnership” (hereinafter the “JBEPA”).
- Based on this Cabinet Decision, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will sign the JBEPA and its Implementing Agreement, as well as the Joint Statement, at a Japan-Brunei Summit Meeting which will be held in Tokyo on June 18 (Mon).
- It is expected that the JBEPA will promote the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment between the two countries and invigorate the economies of both countries through the establishment of a reciprocal economic partnership in various fields.
