Signing of the Agreement between Japan and Brunei Darussalam for an Economic Partnership

  1. On June 15 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided at its Cabinet meeting to sign the “Agreement between Japan and Brunei Darussalam for an Economic Partnership” (hereinafter the “JBEPA”).
  2. Based on this Cabinet Decision, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will sign the JBEPA and its Implementing Agreement, as well as the Joint Statement, at a Japan-Brunei Summit Meeting which will be held in Tokyo on June 18 (Mon).
  3. It is expected that the JBEPA will promote the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment between the two countries and invigorate the economies of both countries through the establishment of a reciprocal economic partnership in various fields.
