Statement by Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the Appointment of Mr. Mari Amano as Deputy Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
February 21, 2007
Japanese
- I welcome the news that on February 20 (Tue), the Council of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) decided to appoint Mr. Mari Amano (currently Acting Executive Director of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO)) as one of the Deputy Secretaries-General of the OECD.
- OECD is an international organization engaged in wide-ranging fields including economy, trade and development. I hope Mr. Amano will make use of his experience and work to expand the activities of the OECD.
- Mr. Kiyotaka Akasaka, the current OECD Deputy-Secretary General, will leave office shortly as he was appointed UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information (Chief of the Department of Public Information) on February 9. I would like to pay tribute to the proactive contribution he made during his tenure at the OECD.
