Signing of the Protocol of Agreement between Japan and the United Mexican States for the Strengthening of Economic Partnership

  1. The Protocol of Agreement between Japan and the United Mexican States for the Strengthening of the Economic Partnership was signed on September 21 (Thu) (September 20 local time) in Mexico City between Mr. Yubun Narita, Japanese Ambassador to Mexico, and Mr. Sergio Alejandro Garcia de Alba Zepeda, Mexican Economy Minister.
  2. The Agreement stipulates that with regard to poultry meat, the in-quota rate of Customs-Duties applied during the period from the second year to the fifth year after the entry into force of the Agreement shall be negotiated by both countries in the first year and, with regard to beef and oranges, the in-quota rate of Customs-Duties applied during the period from the third year to the fifth year shall be negotiated by both countries in the second year. Based on this, shortly after the Agreement entered into force, both countries started negotiations on the in-quota rate of Customs-Duties and after that, in addition to poultry meat, both countries started negotiations on the in-quota rate of Customs-Duties of beef and oranges. On September 4 (Mon) and 5 (Tue), both countries reached agreement at the Vice-Ministerial Consultations.
