The Signing of the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement

- On September 8 (Fri), the Government of Japan reached a cabinet decision to sign an agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Philippines for an economic partnership, the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA).
- Based on this decision, the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, and the President of the Philippines, Ms. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, will sign the JPEPA, the Implementing Agreement, and the Joint Statement at the upcoming Japan-Philippines summit in Helsinki, Finland.
- The ratification of the JPEPA is expected to promote liberalizing and facilitating trade and investment. Building mutually beneficial economic partnerships in a wide range of fields between Japan and the Philippines is expected to further invigorate the economies of both countries.
