Fourth Meeting of Tokyo Forum for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament

- The Fourth Meeting of the Tokyo Forum for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament, co-sponsored by the Japan Institute of International Affairs and the Hiroshima Peace Institute, will be held for three days from July 23 (Fri.) until 25 (Sun.) in Tokyo (Takanawa Prince Hotel.).
- In response to the nuclear testing conducted by India and Pakistan in May last year, the Tokyo Forum has held discussions designed to maintain and strengthen the non-proliferation system including that in South Asia, study ways of further promoting global nuclear disarmament, and produce concrete recommendations to that end. At this Forum, a report including recommendations concerning the future course of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament is expected to be formulated.
- This meeting will be co-chaired by Ambassador Nobuo Matsunaga, Vice Chairman of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, and Mr. Yasushi Akashi, ex-President of the Hiroshima Peace Institute, and attended by 20 experts from Japan and abroad, including Professor Robert O'Neill of the University of Oxford, and Mr. Michael Krepon, President, Henry L. Stimson Center.
