Japan-South Africa Summit Meeting

On November 23, commencing at 2:20 p.m. local time (9:20 p.m. on November 23, Japan time) for approximately 10 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting South Africa to attend the G20 Johannesburg Summit, held a Summit Meeting with H.E. Mr. Matamela Cyril RAMAPHOSA, President of the Republic of South Africa. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, President Ramaphosa conveyed his congratulations on Prime Minister TAKAICHI 's appointment as Prime Minister and Japan’s successful hosting of TICAD 9, in which the President himself participated. In response, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her gratitude and respect for South Africa’s hosting of Africa’s first G20 Summit.
- Prime Minister TAKAICHI noted that she would like to cooperate, in both public and private sectors, with South Africa toward establishing highly predictable global supply chain including mineral resources in the context of economic security. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also stated the importance of an investment environment that enables stable activities for Japanese companies.
- The two leaders also exchanged views on international issues and concurred to work closely. The two leaders further concurred to continue close cooperation based on the results of TICAD 9 and the G20 Summit.
