On October 9, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, held a meeting with Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI welcomed the visit of Prime Minister Nabbanja to Japan. He also expressed his wish to further enhance the bilateral cooperation with Uganda, which plays an important role in regional peace and stability.
  2. In response, Prime Minister Nabbanja stated that she would like to further strengthen good bilateral relations, expressed her appreciation for Japan's support and stated her expectation for further investment from Japan.
  3. Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI stated that Japan would continue to support Uganda’s efforts as one of the co-hosts of Global Refugee Forum (GRF) and also stated that Japan would contribute to strengthening regional connectivity through implementing the Project for the Reconstruction of Karuma Bridge on the Northern Corridor.
  4. In addition, Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI asked for Prime Minister Nabbanja’s continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue by North Korea.
