On August 22, commencing at 9:35 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with Rt. Hon. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his congratulations on the 35th anniversary of independence and the inauguration of Prime Minister Nungale and his gratitude for choosing Japan as his first overseas trip outside of Africa. He also stated that Japan would like to cooperate through the collaboration between both public and private sectors in Namibia's top priorities of job creation and economic growth. In response, Prime Minister Nungale conveyed greetings from President Nandi-Ndaitwah to Prime Minister ISHIBA and expressed his desire to further strengthen the longstanding cordial bilateral relations.
  2. Following that, Prime Minister ISHIBA stated his willingness to provide support in line with Namibia's needs, including agricultural sector. Prime Minister ISHIBA also requested cooperation in promoting investment from Japan in the field of mineral and energy resources and green hydrogen, which are attracting increasing interest from Japanese companies. In response, Prime Minister Nungale expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and provide an explanation regarding the national development plan formulated by the Government of Namibia, stating his intention to continue working closely together to promote further investment by Japanese companies. The two leaders concurred on the importance of support for human resources including youth.
  3. The two leaders also exchanged views and concurred in working closely together to respond to various international challenges.
