Japan-Mozambique Relations
Meeting between Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI and H.E. Ms. Maria Benvinda Delfina LEVI, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique

On June 17, commencing at 16:25 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Maria Benvinda Delfina LEVI, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi welcomed Prime Minister LEVI's visit to Japan and stated that Mozambique, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence this month, and Japan have built friendly relations over the years and that he hopes to establish a good relationship with the new government headed by President CHAPO, who took office in January this year. In response, Prime Minister LEVI expressed her appreciation for Japan's support and stated that she would like to further strengthen long lasting bilateral relations through this visit, including the promotion of investment by Japanese companies.
- The two sides confirmed that they will cooperate for the early resumption of natural gas development projects in the northern part of Mozambique in which Japanese companies are participating, the resolution of the issues which Japanese companies are facing, and the success of TICAD 9 in August this year, in which President CHAPO announced his participation.
- In addition, the two sides exchanged views on the regional situation including their policies towards North Korea. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and Prime Minister LEVI stated thatshe would like to work closely together in the international arena to resolve various issues including the abductions issue.
