On February 8th, commencing at 6:43 p.m. for approximately 60 minutes, Mrs. KISHIDA Yuko, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, had a meeting with H.E. Mrs. Rachel Chebet RUTO, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, who is visiting Japan.

  1. Mrs. Kishida welcomed the visit of President Ruto and Mrs. Ruto to Japan and expressed her hope that their visit would be fruitful and provide a great opportunity to deepen relations between the two countries. Mrs. Ruto stated that she was pleased to visit Japan for the first time, expressing her gratitude for the hospitality of the Japanese side.
  2. They experienced Ikebana flower arrangement together in a friendly atmosphere using Kenyan roses and other flowers and plants. They also received a briefing on the history and cultural background of Ikebana from instructors from the Ikebana International Tokyo Founding Chapter which promotes “Friendship through Flowers.” Mrs. Kishida said that “It is very impressive to think that these roses came all the way from Kenya after a long journey.” They reaffirmed the bonds between the two countries.
  3. They also exchanged their views on the culture of both countries regarding flowers and efforts for environmental protection in Japan and Kenya.
