On July 8, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the 32nd anniversary of the Liberation Day reception of the Republic of Rwanda, hosted by the Embassy of Rwanda in Japan, where he delivered his remarks.

  1. In his remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA extended his congratulations on the 64th anniversary of Rwanda’s independence and the 32nd anniversary of its liberation and stated that Japan-Rwanda relations have been developed through economic cooperation in various fields and people-to-people exchanges since Rwanda’s independence in 1962. He also welcomed the strengthening of our bilateral relations through the high-level visits from Rwanda to Japan on the occasions of Rwanda’s National Day at the EXPO 2025, Osaka, Kansai, Japan and TICAD 9 last year.
  2. In addition, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA explained the Updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), as well as the three pillars of Japan’s diplomacy toward Africa, which was recently outlined by Foreign Minister Motegi during his visit to Africa, and expressed his expectations for the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Rwanda, looking ahead to next year, which marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
