1. In his opening remarks, Foreign Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude to Chad, which currently chairs the African Union, for its cooperation and his desire to work together for the success of this first TICAD in Africa. In response, Minister Mahamat Nour confirmed that Chad also hopes to achieve success with the event and reaffirmed its will to cooperate to this end.

2. Foreign Minister Kishida commented that Japan intends to cooperate toward the provision of grant aid totaling about 350 million yen(approximately USD 3.2 million)to provide farming-related equipment that aims to boost the productivity of Chad’s agriculture and livestock industries. In response, Minister Mahamat Nour explained that Chad intends to diversify its industry and not just rely on oil by developing agriculture and livestock industries along with other areas, including through utilization of this assistance.

3. Foreign Minister Kishida expressed Japan’s hope that food assistance amounting to 200 million yen(approximately USD 1.66 million) through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) signed this month contributes to further economic development and poverty reduction in Chad. In response, Minister Mahamat Nour commented that the food assistance gives reassurance to the country’s population and expressed gratitude for the assistance as it faces issues of refugee and internally displaced persons.
