Prime Minister TAKAICHI’s attendance at Africa Day Celebration (Summary)

On May 25, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, attended a reception in Tokyo celebrating Africa Day, hosted by the African Diplomatic Corps.
- At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI delivered opening remarks, noting that Japan pioneered the launch of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in 1993 following the end of the Cold War. She emphasized that, as the international community faces numerous challenges, it is essential for Japan and Africa to work hand in hand to co-create solutions to global issues.
- Furthermore, Prime Minister TAKAICHI also referred to the updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) which she had put forward in Vietnam this month, and expressed Japan’s determination to further deepen cooperation with Africa in order to support African countries acquire “resilience” and capability to have freedom to decide for themselves.
- Also attending the reception from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were State Minister KUNIMITSU Ayano and Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI Yohei. State Minister KUNIMITSU, in her opening remarks, introduced the outcomes of Foreign Minister MOTEGI’s recent visit to Africa.
