The 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) Closing Ceremony

On August 22, Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru attended the closing ceremony of TICAD 9 which was held at Pacifico Yokohama from 10:30 AM for approximately 40 minutes. 49 African countries participated in TICAD 9. During TICAD 9, Prime Minister ISHIBA held meetings with the heads of delegations of 34 countries and international organizations. Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi held meetings with the chief representatives of 30 countries and regional/international organizations (as of August 22).
- At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba made the opening remarks and stated that the participants at TICAD 9 shared many ideas on the co-creation of innovative solutions to challenges, and that they shared the view to further strengthen cooperation between Japan and Africa. Prime Minister Ishiba then expressed his hope that TICAD 9 would be remembered as a new starting point for Africa's remarkable leap forward and a stronger partnership between Japan and Africa, emphasized the importance of working together to foster people and industries.
- This was followed by remarks from TICAD co-organizers: H.E.Mr. Mahmoud Ali YOUSSOUF, the AUC Chairperson, Ms. Cristina DUARTE, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser of the United Nations Secretary-General on Africa, Mr. Haoliang XU, Under-Secretary-General and Acting Administrator of UNDP, Mr. Makhtar Diop, IFC Managing Director (representing the President of World Bank). H.E. Mr. João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, the AU Chairperson made the closing remarks.
- The "TICAD9 Yokohama Declaration 2025" was adopted as an outcome of TICAD 9.
