  1. On September 20, 2023, the Governments of the United States and the Government of Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) for Reducing Energy Poverty and Increasing Access to Energy in Sub-Saharan Africa
  2. This MOC was signed by Mr. MATSUBAYASHI Kenichiro, Deputy Director-General, Africa Affairs Department and Mr. John Irons, Deputy Coordinator, Power Africa, United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
  3. This MOC builds on the U.S.-Japan Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) signed in 2019 and aims to improve energy access, support poverty reduction, promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, mitigate climate change, and enhance energy security in sub-Saharan Africa.
