Prime Minister Abe Receives a Courtesy Call from the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria

On November 11, commencing at 9:40 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Prime Minister ABE Shinzo received a courtesy call from Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Abe welcomed Speaker Gbajabiamila’s visit to Japan and stated, “Nigeria is one of the most important partners in Africa for Japan.” Prime Minister Abe continued by saying that, “I expect your visit to Japan will give momentum to the development of the bilateral relations.”
Speaker Gbajabiamila responded by expressing his gratitude to the warm hospitality extended to the delegation. He also offered his congratulations to the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor as well as his condolences to the victims affected by Typhoon No.19 (Hagibis). - Speaker Gbajabiamila then demonstrated his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields such as petroleum refinery, power, health and education. Furthermore, Speaker Gbajabiamila showed his expectation for more Japanese companies to operate in Nigeria.
Prime Minister Abe responded by stating, “I expect that Japan-Nigeria Business Facilitation Council, which I and President Buhari agreed to establish, will help encourage Japanese companies to show their presence in Nigeria.” - Speaker Gbajabiamila expressed his intention to support Japan’s efforts towards the UN Security Council (UNSC) reform, including Japan’s bid for a permanent seat at UNSC, as well as to work together with Japan in the field of nuclear disarmament while referring to the visit by his delegation to Hiroshima. The two sides agreed to further cooperate in the international arena, including the UN reform and nuclear disarmament.
