Japan-Mauritania Relations

On July 18, following the Mauritanian presidential election held on June 29, Prime Minister KISHIDA issued a congratulatory letter to the President, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould CHEIKH EL GHAZOUANI, on his re-election.

In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his confidence that, under the leadership of President GHAZOUANI, Mauritania would remain the cornerstone of peace and stability in the region, and that Mauritania’s social and economic development would further progress.
Prime Minister Kishida also stated that he is pleased to work closely with Mauritania, the current chair of the African Union (AU), including at the TICAD Ministerial Meeting in August this year, with a view to the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) to be held next year, and expressed his desire to take this opportunity to further develop the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
