Japan-Equatorial Guinea Summit Meeting

On August 20, commencing at 4:25 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Manuel OSA NSUE NSUA, Prime Minister of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA welcomed Prime Minister Osa Nsue Nsua’s visit to Japan, following Vice President Nguema Obiang Mangue’s visit last month. Prime Minister ISHIBA also expressed his respect for Prime Minister Osa Nsue Nsua’s efforts to drive Equatorial Guinea’s economic growth by leveraging his past experience in a business sector and stated his desire to strengthen relations between the two countries, including economic relations. In response, Prime Minister Osa Nsue Nsua expressed his high appreciation for Japan’s efforts in TICAD to date and stated his desire to further strengthen cooperation in bilateral relations as well as at the international area, particularly in the area of economic relations.
- Following that, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his intention to deepen the cooperation in the sector of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the utilization of the ocean with Equatorial Guinea, which is a resource-rich country. Prime Minister ISHIBA, referring to Japan’s community-based support, such as incinerator maintenance, provision of medical equipment, and school expansion, expressed his intention to provide tailor-made cooperation to solve issues of Equatorial Guinea. In response, Prime Minister Osa Nsue Nsua expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and expressed his intention to continue to further deepen bilateral cooperation in the various fields.
