Japan-Gambia Relations
Courtesy Call on Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru by H.E. Mr. Muhammad B. S. JALLOW, Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia

On August 21, commencing at 10:40 a.m., for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Muhammad B. S. JALLOW, Vice-President of the Republic of The Gambia, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his respect for Vice President Jallow’s efforts to develop human resources who will support reform and development of The Gambia through education, and stated his desire to further develop bilateral relations with The Gambia, an important friend that shares values and principles such as democracy and the rule of law. In response, Vice President Jallow expressed his high appreciation for Japan’s efforts in Africa, including its efforts towards peace and stability in the region, and stated his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena.
- Following that, Prime Minister ISHIBA referred to Japan’s support, including the provision of agricultural equipment such as rice polishers, and stated that Japan would continue to cooperate with The Gambia on food security. Prime Minister ISHIBA also explained Japan’s support for the digitization of education and the introduction of food drying technology utilizing technologies of Japanese companies, and stated that Japan would continue to promote such public-private partnerships. In response, Vice President Jallow expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and expressed his hope for further investment by Japanese companies.
- The both sides also concurred in further strengthening cooperation in responding to various challenges, including Security Council reform.
