Japan-Ghana Summit Meeting

On August 20, commencing at 6:40 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Nineth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his condolences for the accident on August 6th that resulted in the deaths of eight people, including the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Environment, and stated his desire to further strengthen the partnership with Ghana together with President Mahama, who has experience working at the Japanese Embassy in Ghana. In response, President Mahama stated that he highly appreciates Japan's past efforts in TICAD and wishes to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena]. The two leaders concurred to further enhance the bilateral relationship toward 2027, marking the 100th anniversary of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi's voyage, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and the 50th anniversary of the dispatch of JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers.
- Following that, Prime Minister ISHIBA, referring to the activities of Japanese startup companies in the fields of agriculture, education, and health, as well as Japan's support in the infrastructure sector, requested cooperation in resolving the challenges faced by Japanese companies. In response, President Mahama expressed gratitude for Japan's support and stated his intension to continue working closely together to further promote investment by Japanese companies.
- The two leaders also discussed various regional and international challenges and confirmned to continue to work together in this regard.
