Japan-Cabo Verde Summit Meeting

On August 21, commencing at 4:50 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Dr. José Ulisses CORREIA E SILVA, Prime Minister of the Republic of Cabo Verde, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), in Yokohama. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his congratulations on Cabo Verde’s 50th anniversary of independence and stated his desire to further develop relationship with Cabo Verde, sharing common values and principles such as the rule of law. In response, Prime Minister Correia e Silva mentioned the progress in the relationship with Japan and stated his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena.
- Following that, Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his intention to continue supporting Cabo Verde in food security and infrastructure, and welcomed the progress in cooperation in these areas, noting that both countries, as island nations, share a focus on the blue economy. In response, Prime Minister Correia e Silva expressed his gratitude for Japan’s past support and his expectation for further support from Japan in various fields.
- The two leaders concurred to continue closely working together to deepen the bilateral relationship.
