On April 29, commencing at 3:30 p.m. (local time) (April 30, 0:30 a.m. JST) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, visited the maternal and child health care annex of the University Hospital Center of Cocody, which is one of the largest hospitals in Côte d’Ivoire and received Japanese assistance for its construction and renovation.

Guided by Dr. Meite, Director of the University Hospital Ceter of Cocody, Minister Kamikawa visited the pediatric care room, neonatal intensive care unit (ICU), delivery room, and other facilities, and received explanations from hospital personnel and others about the results of Japan's cooperation in human resources development and technical cooperation.

The University Hospital Center of Cocody is one of the largest hospitals in Côte d'Ivoire. From 1994 to 1997, the construction of the outpatient ward and renovation of the main building were realized by Japanese assistance. Currently, approximately 50,000 people attend the center each year, and approximately 200 pediatric surgical procedures and 7,000 deliveries are performed annually. From 2019, with the aim of improving maternal and child health care services in Greater Abidjan, the hospital has constructed a new maternal and child health care annex and improved equipments, and conducted human resources development, including Kaizen training, training in Japan and training in third countries (medical equipment maintenance). In July 2023, the maternal and child health care annex (4 floors, 200 beds) was opened
