Japan-Central African Republic Relations

On August 21, commencing at 10:10 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Faustin Archange TOUADERA, President of the Central African Republic, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that the stability of the Central African Republic, which borders six neighboring countries, is key to peace and stability in Africa, and paid tribute to President Touadera’s efforts to promote the country’s development through diplomatic efforts. He also stated that Japan will continue to support the stability and development of the Central African Republic. In response, President Touadera expressed his desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
  2. Following that, Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that Japan will support the smooth implementation of local elections in December this year, the first in 40 years, from the perspective of promoting democratization and decentralization. Prime Minister ISHIBA also stated that Japan will provide support to improve the food security in Central Africa. In response, President Touadera expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support in various fields.
  3. The two leaders concurred in further strengthening the relations between the two countries.
