State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. HORII Iwao’s Visit to Solomon Islands
From October 31 to November 2, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Solomon Islands. The overview of the visit is as follows.
1. Meeting with Japanese residents of Solomon Islands
On October 31, State Minister Horii met with Japanese residents of Solomon Islands.
2. Visit to Peace Memorial Park
On October 31, State Minister Horii visited Solomon Peace Memorial Park and offered flowers for the war dead.
3. Visit to JICA Solomon Islands Office
On November 1, State Minister Horii visited JICA Solomon Islands Office and exchanged views with the staff.
4. Courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Jeremiah MANELE of Solomon Islands
On November 1, State Minister Horii paid a courtesy call on Hon. Jeremiah MANELE, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands.
State Minister Horii mentioned that Japan has supported Solomon Islands to address various issues through the Pacific Islands Leaders' Meeting (PALM) and bilateral initiatives for many years. He expressed Japan’s desire to strengthen relations with Solomon Islands having a deep historical relationship with Japan. State Minister Horii also conveyed Japan’s strong support for the PIF's "2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent,” and that Japan would continue to cooperate with Pacific Island countries respecting the Pacific Island countries’ own agenda, and making use of Japan’s strength. Furthermore, State Minister Horii stated that he would like to continue cooperation towards next year’s Ministerial Interim Meeting for the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) and the PALM10.
State Minister Horii explained that the monitoring results of the discharge of ALPS -treated water have confirmed that it is being conducted safely as planned. He stated that Japan would continue to provide detailed explanations based on scientific evidence.
The two sides concurred on the importance of Japan and Solomon Islands engaging in candid dialogue, including on this issue.
5. Courtesy call on Minister of Communications and Aviation AGOVAKA
On November 1, State Minister Horii paid a courtesy call on Hon. Peter Shanel AGOVAKA, Minister of Communications and Aviation of the Solomon Islands.
State Minister Horii mentioned that Japan has supported Solomon Islands to address various issues through the Pacific Islands Leaders' Meeting (PALM) and bilateral initiatives for many years, and expressed Japan’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Solomon Islands, a long-time friend tied by the Pacific Ocean.
