On July 10, in Suva, Fiji, Mr. OKUYAMA Jiro, Ambassador in charge of the Pacific Islands Leaders Summit (PALM), paid a courtesy call on Hon. Mr. Baron Devavesi Waqa, Secretary General, Pacific Islands Forum (PIF).

  1. Ambassador Okuyama stated that it is gratifying that the first “Japan- Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) Kizuna Talanoa” is going to be held on July 11th. This is the senior officials dialogue between Japan and the PIFS that was agreed upon during the meeting between Foreign Minister Iwaya and Secretary General Waqa in March of this year.
  2. Ambassador Okuyama conveyed that Japan strongly supports the unity of the Pacific Island countries region and the PIF's "2050 Strategy" that embodies it and emphasized Japan's policy of consistently and steadily implementing the commitments made at the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Summit (PALM10) last July. Secretary General Waqa expressed high appreciation for Japan's efforts in promoting cooperation with Pacific Island countries and extended his gratitude to the people and Government of Japan.
  3. In addition, both sides also exchanged views on regional situations.
