Japan - the Republic of Kiribati Summit Meeting

On March 15, commencing at 1:15 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a summit meeting with H.E. Anote Tong, President of the Republic of Kiribati, who was visiting Sendai to attend the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Prime Minister Abe welcomed President Tong to Japan, to which, President Tong expressed his appreciation in response.
2. Prime Minister Abe stated that the 7th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM7) in May this year would be a good opportunity to elevate the partnership between Japan and the Pacific island countries to higher stage, and called for cooperation of President Tong for the success of the Meeting. In response, President Tong expressed appreciation for Japan’s generous support to date, and stated that he would cooperate in order to achieve meaningful outcomes at PALM7.
3. President Tong also expressed his respect for Japan’s contribution to the fight against terrorism.
