Mr. NAGASHIMA Akihisa, Special Advisor to Prime Minister visited Australia (Canberra and Perth) from June 24 to 28. The overview of the visit is as follows.

  1. On the 25th, Special Advisor Nagashima met in Canberra with Mr. Paul Ericson, the National Secretary of the Australian Labor Party, Mr. Andrew Shearer, Director-General of the Office of National Intelligence, and Her Excellency Ms. Jan Adams, Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, and exchanged views on the bilateral relationship and regional issues. He also held informal talks with representatives from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Canberra office, discussing defense industry cooperation between Japan and Australia.
  2. Additionally, on the 26th and 27th, Special Advisor Nagashima visited Henderson Shipyard in Perth and met with Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson, Minister for Energy and Decarbonization, Manufacturing, Skills and TAFE, Pilbara of Western Australia, and Hon Patrick Gorman MP, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, and exchanged views on economic and energy relations between Japan and Western Australia, as well as on security cooperation.
  3. Moreover, Special Advisor Nagashima joined a roundtable discussion with Professor Gordon Flake, CEO of the Perth US Asia Centre, and others at the University of Western Australia, exchanging views on the bilateral relationship, particularly on diplomacy and security, regional situations, and people-to-people exchanges.
  4. In addition, Special Advisor Nagashima held discussions with representatives of Japanese companies operating in Western Australia, exchanging views on prospects and challenges related to business opportunities in the region.
