Japan-Australia Summit Telephone Talk
On September 18, commencing at 10:00 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister, held a Japan-Australia Summit Telephone Talk with the Hon Malcolm Turnbull, MP, Prime Minister of Australia. The overview is as follows:
1. Prime Minister Abe congratulated Prime Minister Turnbull on his inauguration as Prime Minister, emphasizing that the Government of Japan attaches importance to the “Special Strategic Partnership” between Japan and Australia, and that he intends to work with Prime Minister Turnbull to further strengthen the special relationship between Japan and Australia in a broad range of fields, including politics, economy, culture, and people-to-people exchange.
2. In response, Prime Minister Turnbull expressed his sincere gratitude, and mentioned that as the new Prime Minister appointed on September 15, he is looking forward to working with Prime Minister Abe on strengthening relations with Japan, which is an important partner for Australia, and on the stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. Prime Minister Turnbull also stated that Australia supports Japan’s Security-related legislation.
