They concurred on promoting close communication between the two governments for stable development of the Japan-ROK relations, under their leadership. Furthermore, in light of the active people-to-people exchanges as well as economic exchanges taking place under the positive atmosphere of bilateral relations in recent years, they concurred that the government would continue to support such efforts this year as it marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the ROK.
  2. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional situations. They reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together between Japan and the ROK, as well as among Japan, the ROK, and the United States on the policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
  3. The two leaders welcomed the meaningful exchange of views in person following the telephone talks shortly after President Lee’s assumption of office, and concurred that they would continue to communicate closely between the two governments including through the two leaders’ “shuttle diplomacy”.
