Foreign Minister Mr. Iwaya is shaking hands with Mr. Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of  Korea

On November 14, commencing at 4:00 p.m. (local time. 6:00 a.m. on November 15, Japan time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a bilateral Meeting with H.E. Mr. Cho Tae-yul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), during his visit to Lima, Republic of Peru, for the APEC Ministerial Meetings. The summary of the bilateral meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya stated that he was delighted to see Minister Cho in person for the first time following the telephone talks shortly after his assumption of office.
  2. The two ministers concurred to work closely with each other to further elevate the bilateral relations to new heights towards the next year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the Japan-ROK relations. The two ministers reaffirmed the importance of cooperation among Japan, the ROK, and the United States.
  3. The two ministers exchanged views on regional situations, such as our policies toward North Korea. Regarding North Korea, they shared serious concern on its nuclear and missile activities and further advancement of its military cooperation with Russia including deployment of North Korean troops to Russia. The two ministers reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together between Japan and ROK, as well as among Japan, the ROK, and the United States. Minister Cho confirmed the support of The ROK regarding the abductions issue.
  4. The two ministers reaffirmed that they would continue to communicate closely with one another.
