Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
On September 22, commencing at around 10:30 a.m. (local time) for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a foreign ministers' meeting with H.E. Ms. Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in New York, the United States of America, during his visit to attend the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. On the issue of North Korea, the two ministers confirmed that Japan and the ROK, and Japan, the United States and the ROK, will continue to collaborate closely, including in the area of security, based on the discussions of the Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Summit Meeting that was held the day before (September 21).
2. In addition, the two ministers shared the view that while difficult issues exist between Japan and the ROK, they will work together to advance a future-oriented Japan-ROK relationship while properly managing these issues.
