 On September 7, commencing at around 8:00 am (local time) for approximately 50 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Vladivostok, Russia, held a Japan-Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.E. Ms. Kang Kyung-wha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ROK. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. With regard to the situation in North Korea, the Ministers shared the view that now is the time to apply maximum pressure on North Korea, and confirmed that Japan and the ROK as well as Japan, the ROK and the United States would continue the close collaboration for the adoption of a further robust United Nations Security Council resolution.
  2. Minister Kono also stated that although various issues exist between Japan and the ROK, the two Governments should manage these difficult issues appropriately. The two Ministers confirmed that they will build a future-oriented Japan-ROK relationship.
