Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On November 15, commencing at 10:20 a.m. (local time. 3:20 a.m. on November 16, Japan time) for approximately 55 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK) during her visit to San Francisco for the APEC Leaders’ Week 2023. The summary of the bilateral meeting is as follows.
- The Ministers welcomed close communication taking place between them, including the Japan-U.S.-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held on the previous day. Stating that the two countries were able to cooperate recently as partners regarding the departure of their nationals from Israel, Minister Kamikawa looked forward to continuing to work closely together with ROK. Minister Park concurred.
- Minister Kamikawa mentioned that she was pleased that the Vice-Foreign Ministers' strategic dialogue was held for the first time in nine years, and that there was closer communication between their diplomatic establishments abroad. Referring to the “Japan-Korea Exchange Festival 2023”, the two Ministers concurred on continuing to support a variety of dialogues and exchanges in the private sector.
- Minister Kamikawa explained Japan’s efforts with respect to the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine based on her recent visit to the Middle East and exchanged views with Minister Park on the matter. The Ministers also exchanged views on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and North Korea’s nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and decided to maintain close cooperation in the international arena.
