Working Lunch between Foreign Minister Motegi and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang of China

On Wednesday, December 25, commencing at 12 p.m. (1 p.m. JST) for approximately one and a half hours, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Beijing, held a working lunch with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Minister Motegi congratulated China on the successful Eighth Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit meeting. The two sides reaffirmed that they will continue to strongly promote Japan-China and Japan-China-ROK cooperation.
2. The two sides shared the view on continuing to work together to ensure a meaningful State Visit to Japan by President Xi Jinping next spring, and on creating an environment to this end.
3. The two sides shared the view on coordinating toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Minister Motegi also requested China’s support for the early resolution of the abductions issue. In addition, the two sides discussed other matters of concern to the international community.
