- Mr. Hervé Ladsous, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations(PKO), United Nations Secretariat, will visit Japan from Saturday 3 to Wednesday 7 November.
- During his stay in Japan, Mr. Ladsous will exchange opinions with various senior officials of the Government of Japan who are in charge of PKO related matters. He will also participate in the Public Symposium,“20 Years of Peacekeeping Operations for the UN and Japan - Taking on New Challenges” and deliver a key note speech at the Symposium.
- This year marks 20th anniversary of Japan’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations as well as of the creation of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) within the UN secretariat. Japan welcomes the visit of Mr. Ladsous in this memorable year.
- Japan will continue its proactive efforts toward the international peace and security including active contribution to UN peacekeeping activities.

Since the enactment and the enforcement of the International Peace Cooperation Law in 1992, Japan has dispatched approximately 7,800 personnel to a total of 13 UN peacekeeping operations including those in Angola, Cambodia, Mozambique, El Salvador, Timor-Leste, Nepal, and Sudan. Today, Japan’s International Peace Cooperation Corps members are actively engaged in UN peacekeeping missions in UNDOF, MINUSTAH and UNMISS.
