Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the First Vice President of the Republic of the Sudan

- H.E. Mr. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the First Vice President of the Republic
of the Sudan, will visit Japan from March 9 (Mon) to 12 (Thu), at the invitation
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- During his stay in Japan, the First Vice President will pay a courtesy
call on Prime Minister Taro Aso, hold talks with Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone,
Minister for Foreign Affairs, and exchange views with the Ministry of Defense
and JICA. He will also attend the “TICAD IV Follow-up Symposium -
Japan’s Efforts to Promote Peace and Security in Africa : The Case of Sudan
and Beyond-.” This symposium will be held at the United Nations University
on March 11 (Wed) and hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He
will give the keynote speech in the Symposium.
- The Republic of the Sudan is tackling difficult challenges such as the promotion of the north-south peace process and the solution of the Darfur issues. Taking this opportunity of this visit, Japan will encourage the Sudan to make further efforts for the resolution of the conflict and the promotion of peace. Meanwhile, Japan will show its intention to support the consolidation of peace in Sudan.
