Meeting between Foreign Minister Matsumoto and Jordanian Minister of Planning and Cooperation Hassan

 On June 9 (Thursday), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Takeaki Matsumoto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Jafar Hassan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. An outline of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Great East Japan Earthquake
     At the outset, Minister Matsumoto expressed his sincere gratitude for the help given by the Jordanian medical support team dispatched to the disaster area in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake and also for the efforts of the initiatives of the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in collecting donations for disaster relief from Jordanian public school students.

  2. The peace in the Middle East
     Minister Matsumoto said that Japan hopes for the early resumption of the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority towards the early realization of a two-state solution, and that Japan will contribute to creating an environment that facilitates negotiations between the parties concerned.

  3. Bilateral Relationship
     Minister Hassan explained the efforts being made by the Government of Jordan towards the democratization of the country, as well as Jordan’s role in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East. In response, Minister Matsumoto noted that Japan would support Jordan in its efforts to play a proactive role in ensuring the stability of the region.
