The Government of Japan evaluates the release by the Government of Myanmar on September 23 (Tue) of 9,002 prisoners including political prisoners such as Mr. Win Tin, former Secretary of the National League for Democracy (NLD), as a positive step leading to the democratization and national reconciliation of the country.
The Government of Japan expects that the Government of Myanmar will further promote its movement of releasing political prisoners in the future and promote the democratization process in the form that all the parties concerned will participate.
