On February 13, commencing at 5:40p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Hon. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, who is visiting Japan. An overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina expressed her hope for further cooperation in various fields with Sri Lanka’s new administration under the “Comprehensive Partnership”, based on the longstanding friendship between the two countries. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Ikuina also stated that Japan is very much looking forward to seeing the steady implementation of the reforms Sri Lanka has agreed with the IMF, and an early completion of a transparent and comparable debt restructuring so that Sri Lanka can return to the track of robust economic development.
  2. Deputy Minister Suriyapperuma expressed his gratitude for Japan's support during difficult times of Sri Lanka.
